Quinn

He’s going to kiss me.

Crank has surprised me tonight. More than that, he’s pulled the rug from right under me on my preconceptions about the kind of man he is.

I’m not foolish enough to think that the notches on his bedpost is a very healthy number, but maybe there is more to Killian Crankton than meets the eye.

He slides his hand into my hair and gently collars my throat. I didn’t ever think I’d enjoy being manhandled in such an overt display of ownership, but I can’t deny that my skin is vibrating with anticipation.

“So fuckin’ beautiful,” he leans in, whispering the words against my cheek. “I can’t wait to fuck you out of my system, sunshine. To see what you look like bent over my bike, to feel your tight pussy wrapped around my cock.”

I blink at him, shame burning my cheeks.

“I think your words were, ‘fuck you out of my system.’ Newsflash asshole, I’m not looking to be anybody’s next conquest. You really should have stuck with Lucy. At least she was a sure thing.”

“Are you done?”

Oh, he’s pissed, alright. His nostrils flare as he glares at me.

“Yeah, I’m done.”

So done.

Crank is no different to every other guy who thinks women are simply there for their entertainment and pleasure.

Screw that.

I have too much self-respect to become anyone’s fuck toy.

But I can’t deny the sting of disappointment at finding out he really is just like the rest of them.

“How is everything?” Jerry appears but his smile falls when he senses the tension crackling between us.

“Everything was great, thanks.” I force a smile.

“Yeah, great.” Crank narrows his eyes on me, but I refuse to look at him. “We’ve gotta make tracks, man. But I’ll come around soon.” He digs out his wallet and throws a twenty down on the table. “Quinn…”

Quinn, not sunshine.

Whatever. I guess it’s a good thing he’s putting some distance between us. We can go back to our lives—back to pretending the other doesn’t exist.

It was easier that way anyway.

Jerry says good night and we make our way out of the diner. Crank moves ahead of me, practically ripping the helmet off the handlebars and thrusting it at me.
